Have you ever had a dream of opening your own business? I have for many, many years.
You know. You knew you had it in you to be an entrepreneur. Your family and friends have been pretty successful business owners.
Are There Entrepreneurs in Your Network?
When my grandmother was thinking of becoming an entrepreneur, she asked her butcher if she could borrow $50 to start her first business. She owned two beauty salons in Chicago and a motel in Fort Myers Beach, Florida in her lifetime. I worked with her in the second salon.
My brother, Ken, has also owned his own business for the past thirty-plus years. He’s a carpenter. He builds furniture and remodels people’s homes.
I’ve also worked with several franchisees and business owners in my professional career. There were:
- dispensers at Beltone
- agents at Allstate
- franchisees at McDonald’s and
- facilitators that worked with the American Society of Safety Professionals
I’ve gleaned SO much from all of them about what is entailed in owning your own business.
Why Wouldn’t You Take the Leap?
Being able to take the leap into your own business is all about changing your mindset. If you can move from living in the world of fear to living in the world of abundance, you’re golden. I know firsthand.
I’ve learned once you do that, magical things start to happen! They are happening for me and they can for you. Just take the chance and take the leap!
Famous Last Words From The Queen
You know you can do it. Others have even said so because they believed in you sometimes more than you believed in yourself.
In one of my mom’s last lucid moments when it was just the two of us, she said to me, “Don’t doubt yourself. You can do it.”
At that time, we were talking about a new job that I was interested in at the company I worked at some fifteen years ago. But the words still apply today to opening my own business.
Confidence is key. If you believe in yourself, you can do just about anything. Granted having the support of other family, friends, and colleagues definitely helps.
Playing It Safe Doesn’t Get You A Lemonade Stand!
It’s funny sometimes how others see the potential in you at the same time you’re doubting yourself. Is it because you’re too afraid of failure?
So instead, you opt to play it safe. Well, playing it safe doesn’t get you a lemonade stand in the Caribbean!
Taking the leap, believing in yourself, and doing what you do best and love to do, will!
What Have You Said In Those Frustrating Moments?
Over the last thirty-plus years of my professional career, when I would have moments of growing tired or stressed by the corporate job I was working at the time, I would jokingly say to my sister, Linda, “I’m going to open up a lemonade stand in the Caribbean!”
With that said, Linda knew I had HAD it! She knew I needed a break from the work and even more so a vacation somewhere on a tropical island.
The Lemonade Stand In Your Mind
Since I love island vacations, the Caribbean seemed like a good place to open up my lemonade stand. Trust me when I say, back then, I WAS dreaming of an actual grass hut where I would sell really good lemonade.
It seemed like a much simpler, happier life!
Your Real Lemonade Stand in the Caribbean
Well, they say when you put IT out into the universe, IT happens. So I did just that and it’s happening right now. I can’t even believe it. It’s my dream come true!
I’m on my way, not to the Caribbean just yet, although it’s a possibility now more than ever. I’m on my way to opening my very own lemonade stand, otherwise known as, my own business! So cool.
The same can happen for you. Just go for it!
The Cat’s Meow
And the great thing about having a remote business is that you can run it from wherever you want like I’m doing via my blog, www.queenofglasshalffull.com. How awesome is that!
For someone like me, who loves to travel and experience new places, people, and cultures, especially on the islands, THIS is the cat’s meow!
The “Goodness” Is On Its Way
It’s still in the early part of my entrepreneurial journey but I have a great start. You can do it, too!
You just need the following:
- write some business goals
- hire an experienced coach to steer you in the right direction to accelerate the speed in which you can make a living doing it
- build a tremendous support network of family, friends, and colleagues
- stay motivated
- leverage your exceptional work ethic and drive
- save some money in the bank to live off of in the meantime unless you have a working spouse or are independently wealthy and
- most importantly, have specific goals created from dreams that you truly desire to come true!
All of these things have helped me to make my dream of having a lemonade stand in the Caribbean a reality. I think they would work for you as well.
So make no mistake, “my goodness” is well on its way!
What Is the “Goodness,” You Say?
“Goodness” is what “MY lemonade stand” is all about. The “goodness” is in the lemonade, which entails:
- creating a positive attitude
- learning from life experiences
- being grateful
- taking risks and overcoming fear
- working on self-improvement and self-development
- creating habits and routines
- being innovative and creative
- connecting with innovative and creative people
- building confidence
- leveraging your talents and gifts and
- taking care of yourself by practicing self-care
